Information Technology Strategy

Technology is where the organization turns to accomplish goals.  From open government initiatives, to business process improvements, and service delivery to the public, technology makes it happen!  It's a common misconception is that the role of IT is to provide staff with working computers, printers and telephones.  While that is a critical aspect, the primary role technology plays in our City is in the accomplishment of the goals that makes life better for our 42,000 residents.
Using contracted IT Services Providers, the Information Technology department supports a wide variety of programs in support of citywide initiatives:
  • Website and eGovernment technologies
  • Computer and server support
  • Networking equipment and connectivity
  • Telephone and voice services
  • Enterprise system support / data management
  • GIS and land management system integration
  • Audio / Visual and broadcast equipment
  • Network security and compliance

Documented Plans

IT has for many years used a 5 year spending plan to manage incremental technology purchases and smooth the budgeting process. 

A new strategic plan is currently being developed by an outside consultant to further clarify the formal plan.  The IT Strategic Plan ITSP will be a guide, updated annually in conjunction with the budgeting process to use in the budgeting of system and hardware replacements and upgrades that accomplish City goals set by management and the City Council..
