[ARCHIVED] Inspiration Point, Portuguese Point and Sacred Cove to be Closed on September 6th & 7th

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Beach Hazards Statement from 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 5th through 9:00 PM on Monday, September 7th due to high surf and strong rip currents from an expected south swell. The effects of this swell will be felt most strongly on south-facing beaches, such as Abalone Cove Shoreline Park.

Due to the heavy south swell expected this weekend, the City will close Portuguese Point, Inspiration Point and Sacred Cove on Sunday, September 6th and Monday, September 7th. The City expects to be able to lift this ban by sunset on Labor Day. The beach at Abalone Cove will remain open at this time with lifeguards on duty.

We appreciate the public's cooperation in complying with this temporary closure, and ask you to follow the safety instructions of lifeguards, law enforcement personnel and the City's Recreation & Parks staff.
