[ARCHIVED] Beach and Beach Trail Closures through September 12th

High surf (400 x 250).jpg

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Beach Hazards Statement until 6:00 PM on Friday, September 11th due to high surf and strong rip currents from the remnants of Hurricane Linda. The effects of this swell will be felt most strongly on south-facing beaches, such as Abalone Cove Shoreline Park, and are expected to continue through Saturday, September 12th. As such, the City beaches at Sacred Cove and Portuguese Bend--as well as the trails leading down to them from Portuguese Point and Inspiration Point--are CLOSED, effective immediately. These closures are expected to remain in effect until sunset on Saturday, September 12th. The beach at Abalone Cove will remain open as a guarded beach.

Beach-goers are advised to be extra cautious at the City's beaches during this period, and to follow the safety instructions of lifeguards, law enforcement personnel and the City's Recreation & Parks staff.
