A Tsunami Advisory was issued for coastal Los Angeles County on September 16th as a result of a major earthquake in Chile. The tsunami reached the Los Angeles area at about 4:47 AM this morning. There are no reports of damage or injury.
The Tsunami Advisory remains in effect until further notice. Although the main wave force passed through the area earlier this morning, strong and unusual ocean currents may continue for some time, particularly as high tide approaches at about 11:48 this morning. Residents and visitors are advised to avoid the beach during this advisory.
