[ARCHIVED] Ken Dyda Civic Center Sign Unveiling September 10

Ken Dyda Civic Center Sign Unveiling

Join the City for a sign unveiling ceremony to formally rename the Upper Point Vicente Park/Civic Center property after Councilmember Ken Dyda in recognition of his many years of civic service, including the formation of the City.

This event will take place on September 10 at 11 a.m. at 30940 Hawthorne Boulevard, almost 49 years to the day since the City of Rancho Palos Verdes was incorporated.

Councilmember Ken Dyda’s colleagues on the City Council voted in December 2021 to rename the Rancho Palos Verdes Civic Center after him to honor his tremendous legacy of service to the City. They also voted to name the driveway leading to the Civic Center Ken Dyda Way. A new Civic Center sign and street sign bearing his name will be unveiled during the ceremony, launching the City’s year-long 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Councilmember Dyda has lived on the Peninsula for 60 years and was active in the Save Our Coastline movement that led to the incorporation of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes in 1973, when he was elected to the inaugural City Council. He has served a combined 19 years on the City Council, twice serving as Mayor in 1978-79 and in 2016. In the time between his terms on the City Council, Councilmember Dyda served on many commissions and committees during the past 50 years.
