Covered CA

Covered California Extends Special Enrollment Deadline to August 31

Due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases throughout the state, Covered California is giving consumers additional time to sign up for health care coverage during the pandemic by extending the current special-enrollment deadline to the end of August.

Covered California initially responded to the COVID-19 emergency by opening the health insurance exchange to any eligible uninsured individuals who needed health care coverage from March 20 to June 30, which was then extended to July 31.

The most recent data shows that 231,040 people have signed up through Covered California for health care coverage between March 20 and July 25, which is more than twice the number who signed up during the same time last year.

DMV

DMV Encourages Renewing License Online, Expands Eligibility

The California Department of Motor Vehicles is encouraging eligible Californians to renew their driver’s license online – including drivers whose temporary extensions expire July 31.

As part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the DMV issued temporary extensions to California drivers age 69 and younger with a noncommercial license expiring between March and July 2020. While that extension expires today, nearly all of these drivers can still avoid a trip to a DMV field office by renewing their license online – even if their renewal notice states an office visit is required.

Governor Gavin Newsom has signed executive orders waiving in-person renewals for eligible driver’s license and identification cardholders who had reached their maximum of out-of-office renewals. With that wavier in effect for the length of California’s State of Emergency or until modified, nearly all California drivers younger than age 70 are eligible to renew their license online or by mail.

Some drivers, including Californians applying for a REAL ID for the first time, still must visit a field office to complete their transaction. The DMV strongly encourages REAL ID applicants to fill out the online application and upload the required documents before their office visit. The DMV has issued automatic one-year extensions to drivers age 70 and older with expiring licenses.

Places of Workship

Reminder for Places of Worship

L.A. County understands how central people’s faith is to their identity. Religion is an important source of strength, comfort and community to millions of L.A. County residents, especially in the midst of the very trying COVID-19 health crisis.

For the health and safety of both worshippers and the wider community, L.A. County reminds all residents that religious services can continue to take place outdoors with face coverings and physical distance.

L.A. County is grateful to those religious institutions that are adhering to the Health Officer Order, and who have found ways to worship that do not put the wider community at risk. Americans’ basic right to worship and the public’s right to be protected from this deadly disease need not be in opposition.

Agents of Discovery

Get Outdoors and Go on an Adventure with Agents of Discovery!

July is Park and Recreation Month! To celebrate, the City has teamed up with the California Park & Recreation Society and the Agents of Discovery mobile educational gaming platform to promote safe and healthy outdoor adventures and self-guided activities. RPV is one of 30 agencies participating in the Parks Make Life Better Campaign, which encourages young explorers, or “Agents,” to visit as many participating locations as possible to earn real-life and digital rewards. Although the campaign runs through July, the game is so popular in RPV, the City plans to continue to offer it through at least August.

Kids and their families can participate by downloading the Agents of Discovery app to access free “Missions” (games) at each of the participating locations. Missions are completed by solving educational “Challenges” (questions) created by the site’s interpreters in order to learn about local ecosystems, culture, and history.

To download the free Agents of Discovery app, go to Google Play or the App Store. Once downloaded, find the participating site’s Mission within the app and hit “Play” before you head out. No WiFi connectivity is required to download or play the Missions.
