City Council Meeting Highlights

Highlights from the August 1 City Council meeting:

  • The Council reviewed an updated design concept for beautified medians and parkways along a 2-mile stretch of Western Avenue. The design includes shrubs and trees, landscape lighting, new bus shelters, benches, and trash receptacles, and aesthetically enhanced crosswalks. Construction on this estimated $7.4 million project could begin in spring/summer 2024. City staff will explore grant opportunities and potential cost-sharing with the City of Los Angeles to help bring down costs.
  • SCE gave an update on its action plan to address recurring power outages in the Grandview Estates neighborhood, including the installation of three Remote Automatic Reclosers (RARs) — devices that isolate an outage to the smallest area possible — and circuit improvements.
  • The Council allocated $520,000 to reactivate four City-owned dewatering wells in the Abalone Cove Landslide area to reduce land movement. City staff will explore whether financial ownership of the wells should be transferred to the Abalone Cove Landslide Abatement District, a geohazard abatement district that assesses fees on property owners in the area to maintain and operate over a dozen dewatering wells.
