Join us for the 40th annual Whale of a Day Festival on Saturday, April 12, from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center! This cherished community event honors the Pacific Gray Whale’s migration and offers a day of fun, education, and celebration.
The festival features whale watching from the bluffs, guided tours of the historic Point Vicente Lighthouse grounds, live entertainment, and engaging puppet shows. Visitors can enjoy a variety of food, beer and wine. Families will love the many activities available for children, including crafts, games, inflatables, and face painting. A specially curated vendor fair by Dreamers Market will showcase unique marine themed goods, in addition to marine and wildlife organizations that will be present to share valuable information about conservation and ocean life.
To commemorate the 40th anniversary, new features have been added. A historical exhibit will showcase Whale of a Days legacy with photos and memorabilia. A collaborative community art activity sponsored by the Ann & Steve Hinchcliffe San Pedro & Peninsula YMCA will allow attendees to contribute to a large-scale whale themed chalk mural. Visitors can share their personal memories at the oral history booth, and a special video featuring past and present event highlights will be screened throughout the day. For those looking for a challenge, a live whale trivia tournament will put participants knowledge to the test with fun and educational questions.
Celebrate four decades of marine conservation, education, and community engagement. Mark your calendars for April 12 and be part of this milestone event. For more details, visit www.whaleofaday.com. See you there!
