Applications for Planning Commission and Civic Center Advisory Committee Due May 27
Want to get more involved in local government? The City is accepting applications to fill three vacancies each on the Planning Commission and Civic Center Advisory Committee. These are volunteer, non-paying positions with terms of office ending in June 2026, however, Planning Commissioners receive a stipend of $135 per month.
About the Planning Commission
The seven-member Planning Commission makes decisions on specific private land use planning applications such as subdivision maps, variances, and conditional use permits; reviews environmental assessments, such as Environmental Impact Reports and Negative Declarations; makes decisions on development projects, zoning changes, grading and neighborhood compatibility applications, view restoration permits, utility projects and right-of-way encroachments in the City; considers appeals of staff decisions on land use planning applications, and considers wireless telecommunication permit applications in the public right-of-way.
The Planning Commission meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in McTaggart Hall at Fred Hesse Jr. Community Park, unless a special meeting is scheduled.
About the Civic Center Advisory Committee
The seven-member Civic Center Advisory Committee (CCAC) serves as a citizen’s advisory board to the City Council advising on the development of the Civic Center Master Plan. The CCAC committee plays a vital role in the public outreach process, financial analysis, layout/boundary concerns, conceptual design, and other related issues.
The CCAC meets on a monthly basis, typically the fourth Thursday of the month, at 6 p.m. in the Community Room at City Hall.

Those interested in applying must submit an application to the City Clerk’s Office by 4:30 p.m. on May 27, 2022. Interviews with the City Council are tentatively scheduled to take place on June 7 at 6 p.m. in McTaggart Hall at Fred Hesse Jr. Community Park. The City Clerk’s Office will confirm the date and time of the interviews with the applicants. Applications will be retained for one year for future consideration for vacancies within other City committees.
